Familiar statistic but just a reminder that even in America – the most violent industrialized country in the world – the person most likely to kill you, is yourself.

A few thoughts:
You’re more likely to be killed in a land accident than by suicide (from the IE link.) Watch out for drunk drivers.
{As an aside, the most dangerous pedestrian situation is on an Urban highway after dark, encountering a vehicle turning left after traveling above 40 mph. The driver has outdriven his lights, can’t see you, and doesn’t know he can’t see you. }
Suicide is a symptom of clinical depression. Simply put, people who are not seriously depressed do not kill themselves.
The assault graph is quite fascinating: dramatic decline during the Clinton administration, essentially flat since.
By almost every economic or social measure you can think of, the U.S has faired better with a Dem in the White House as compared to a Repug.
The Kennedy/Johnson admin is the leader in just about everything. Clinton is either second or a close third in just about everything. Mike Kimmel at Angry Bear has posted extensively on this, and his book PRESIMETRICS gives the detail.
Cheers!
