Palin leads GOP candidates in favorability rating both among Republicans

and the Nation as a whole

Though of course her net numbers are the highest of all candidates with republicans +56 and the lowest of all candidates with the general public –3.

Also, I think it’s highly possible that these numbers are driven by how well-known she is. Look at the “Don’t Know/No Opinion” for her vs. everyone else. Something is going on there. As we’ve touched on before, she may well be the favorite son (daughter?) of the Tea Party crowd, but you can’t tell me that she beats Mitt Romney in a battle that also includes the typical elitists Republicans. Now, there may be such a disparity between the elitists and the Tea Partiers that it doesn’t matter, but that’s a different discussion.

I wish they had separated no opinion and don’t know. It seems a little crazy that 27% of Republicans don’t know who Mitt Romney is or that 37% of all Americans have never heard of Mike Huckabee.
My guess (hope) is that this far out from election many people are apathetic about the candidates.

She also leads unfavorability ratings among Republicans and the nation as a whole.

Recently, Arnold Kling was doing a little “daydreaming” in a post about Palin as president, and the remarks got unbelievably rude. I hope that the polarization is not actually that bad if she turns out to be the candidate.

Everyone’s just misunderestimating her. Even Shakespeare got laughed at by the locals during his lifetime.
