Yet it still assumes that the husband will pay for the wife’s purchases. It’s a lot easier to model technological advances over the social ones, apparently.

Its pretty easy, just make as many wild predictions as you can, and ignore any errors. Some of them are bound to turn out correct, or close enough that with 50 years of hindsight it will look like a good guess.
